Emile Vermeulen

Emile has had a passion for music from a young age and started playing the piano at the age of 13. In addition to being classically trained, Emile has always been interested in various genres of music. He went on to study music at the University of Pretoria under Prof Wessel van Wyk, majoring in classical piano performance and jazz studies and achieving his Bachelor of Music (Honours) with distinction. In 2018, Emile passed his Unisa grade 8 piano exam with distinction and was a prize winner in the 2018 Unisa scholarship competition. Emile was also a recipient of the Huberte Rupert music bursary in 2018. He has years of experience performing both solo and in various ensemble/orchestral settings across different styles and genres of music.
Emile teaches both classical and jazz piano lessons at Unlocked. In his spare time, Emile loves drinking (good) coffee, and making music with friends.
“I believe that music resides in all of us. My goal is to help develop well-rounded musicians who are proficient in various styles and genres of music. The piano provides a strong foundation for anyone looking to further their musical skills, and I strive to teach in such a way to incorporate all facets of musicianship with the keyboard.”
